Collection: Mazdevallia
Mazdevallia is the work of artist and jewellery maker Maylin Evanochko. Maylin began her artistic career as a painter, primarily creating large-scale abstract works, full of exploding colour and playful expression. In 2017 Maylin began working in the smaller scale, experimenting with jewellery in her Melbourne-based studio, with a view to making wearable art to add a "spark" to her everyday outfits. Soon her one-off jewellery creations turned into a creative obsession, and Mazdevallia was born.
Maylin believes in slow fashion and finds joy in creating unique collections of jewellery which are not mass-produced. Each pair of earrings is created from a selection of over 150 different handcrafted and hand-painted components, making each pair of earrings truly one-of-a-kind. Maylin uses a layering process for painting the components for her earrings which she developed during her many years as a painter. Using this process she is able to develop her signature colour effects and patterns. Maylin utilises a variety of materials to create her earrings, including but not limited to PVC, leather, polymer clay, cork leather, glitter fabric, and Piñatex - a vegan leather-alternative produced from pineapple fiber.
For Maylin, each pair of Mazdevallia earrings are a miniature work of art, and it's her philosophy that the imperfections are what makes them truly special.
Mazdevallia's ever-evolving collection of dazzling earrings is now created from start to finish in Maylin's home studio in Adelaide, South Australia.
