Ayesha is an Indian-born, Australian artist living in Adelaide, South Australia.
Growing up in India, where so much is still produced by hand, Ayesha learnt to value the handmade. Whether its block-printed textiles, glass bangles, handwoven cane furniture or hand-painted trucks, she was taught to see the beauty in work that was made by a person. Ayesha was lucky enough to be born into a large family of extremely creative women and from an early age conversations about colour, pattern and design were a part of her everyday life.
Ayesha brings all of these conversations into the studio with her to create decorative, functional pieces with bold, graphic designs.
Each piece is completely handmade in her home studio. She uses a combination of wheel-throwing and hand building to create clay objects which she then paints and carves. She loves to work freely and by instinct, applying the colour straight onto the clay and deciding on the design as she goes.
