Abstract Cartography Carrickalinga No. 5 - Leith Semmens
Abstract Cartography Carrickalinga No. 5 by SA artist Leith Semmens - Finalist in the 2024 Heysen Prize for Landscape.
Carrickalinga North is one of the most beautiful locations in Australia. However, it is threatened by climate change. Drawn with a 0.01mm Rotring pen, tiny circles representing grains of sand. Sand that may disappear due to climate change. Aesthetics from across time and cultures, this map is the experience of walking from our house to the intertidal zones of Carrickalinga North Beach. A gentle walk within a tiny hamlet, through national heritage sand dunes, across beautiful and expansive white sand, then bathing your toes in the cold sea water.
Materials: Ink, Rotring pen on archival drawing paper
