Candescent #1 - Annette Allman

Candescent #1 by VIC artist Annette Allman - Finalist in the 2024 Heysen Prize for Landscape.

Inspired by many small aircraft flights taken by Allman over remote stretches of Australia, Candescent #1 captures the saturated vibrancy and fluidity of the wild landscape, a saturation that changes throughout the day as rising and setting light interacts with sky, soil and seed. The work responds to the heating of the Australian landscape. Allman bathes the landscape in cadmium yellow, in an attempt to give her audience the experience of the intense heat that emanates from Australia's remote and rugged landscapes.
