As a result of brain injury and damage to my occipital lobe, I see the world through a literal kaleidoscopic lens. I can feel suffocated in suburbia. Forced to isolate the urban drone, I find solace in the Australian bush, away from the interference of human impact on the environment. This work is a combined depiction of the necessity to relocate in search of a quieter place and the feeling of being chased by overdevelopment, as the search for such a place broadens. Succumbing to the kaleidoscopic patterns and blurred colour surrounding my field of vision, the work embraces the busyness of my mind, while finding the stillness of my body, through the connection to land. I breathe in, the sounds of nature quieten my body, diluting the tension. I breathe out, releasing the chaos, inviting the calm. I am home.
