Eucalyptus Operculum - Paula Zetlein
Eucalyptus Operculum by SA artist Paula Zetlein - Finalist in the 2024 Heysen Prize for Landscape.
‘Eucalyptus Operculum’ captures the moment the Corymbia ficifolia bud bursts, releasing the stamen from behind the operculum (cap) revealing the stigma. The stigma is a symbol of life and illustrates the beauty and complexity of nature but also its inherent fragility. The intricate detail is rendered with subtle gradients which represents the tender balance of our ecosystem. My drawing brings nature to the forefront and highlights its beauty and continuous cycle of growth and transformation. The depiction of this delicate moment reminds us of the importance of environmental stewardship and connection with nature.
