Just a Tree Along Peacock Road - David Braun
Just a Tree Along Peacock Road by SA artist David Braun - Finalist in the 2024 Heysen Prize for Landscape.
A tree in the heart of a city, nearly overwhelmed by its surroundings, is a poignant picture of resilience and struggle. It is a gum tree standing amidst the sea of concrete and steel which is Adelaide. The tree stands as a symbol of endurance and natural beauty in a location where it seems almost out of place. This tree’s existence in such an environment is a reminder of nature’s persistence and the delicate balance between urban development and the natural world. Perhaps this was once a Lord of the Bush but now ‘just a tree along Peacock Road’. Identifying with Hans Heysen’s passion for nature and his love of the beauty found in the natural environment was the underlying inspiration for this work.
