Mail Run - Bundy Bannerman

Mail Run by SA Artist Bundy Bannerman - Finalist in the 2024 Heysen Prize for Landscape.

Despite the Outback being remote, Australian Post ensures the mail run is done twice a week from Woomera, through the rocket range, approximately a 500km round trip. When the drought breaks and heavy rains fall, we’d deliver to the stations. Someone from the station would meet us in the bad spots (with a cup of tea if we were lucky) to ensure we could get through. I no longer work in the outback and looking at this painting makes me feel homesick for the challenges, memories and excitement of the mail run.
