Plant Carers - Louise Flaherty

Plant Carers by SA artist Louise Flaherty  - Finalist in the 2024 Heysen Prize for Landscape.

Plant Carers is a small collection of drawings in response to my long-term research into my local natural environment. These six drawings are drawn from a collection of over fifty drawings which captures the intimate relationship that exists between carer and plant and the community of people that is built around this. I am inspired and motivated by all the work done by the range of people who work and volunteer in plant conservation and research. Through this work, I highlight, celebrate and honour the important work that these dedicated people do to ensure a lasting legacy for our native plants. I hope the work is a catalyst for individuals to explore their own relationship with the natural environment and continue advocating for plants and ecosystems.

I am an artist based on Kaurna land with an art practice spanning drawing, installation, that invites collaboration and community driven outcomes.
