Recycled bird nest I was drawn by the detail, all those twists and shapes entwining around each other. The complexity of it all. Birds should be building nests out of twigs, leaf litter and grasses. Look closely at this nest, what can you see amongst the twigs? This very constructive bird used barbed wire, fencing wire, electrical wire, bailing twine, plastics, newspapers, wool. Is this a sign? Human rubbish? What are we doing? We need to think of the consequences before we throw away. I endeavour to present simultaneously the micro and macro; viewers of my work are often found both stepping right back and getting up close and personal. There are hidden secrets within the complexity of the work. I am a strong believer in the value of drawing as part of the creative process and I usually work in coloured pencil, graphite and/or metalpoint.
