Something Wicked This Way Comes - Maria Holst Salomonson
Something Wicked This Way Comes by TAS artist Maria Holst Salomonson - Finalist in the 2024 Heysen Prize for Landscape.
Triptych, hand forged copper, heat patinated and waxed. Edged with coiled basket weaving of Watsonia leaves and raffia. Symbolic of the vital, often overlooked, filtering work of our shellfish systems. Highlighting the search to provide solutions to a sustainable future, to find answers that incorporate and harness the natural potential of the environment, without destroying everything in the process. Representing natural forms forced to morph as humanity modifies the environment, seeking solutions to survival. My practice is heavily influenced by nature and environmental issues - brought to my attention through our changing climate and personal observations of my local environment. Working mostly with natural or repurposed materials, responsibly sourced locally giving the piece a history, grounding, and connecting it to the place of its creation as an integral part of my practice.
