Stardropper (a Nude Brain) - Simone Kennedy
Stardropper (a Nude Brain) by SA artist Simone Kennedy - Finalist in the 2024 Heysen Prize for Landscape.
My work responds to ideas of vulnerability, intimate environments (such as our natural brain), and a sensitivity to mourning loss of potential. With themes representative of life and death, my work explores concepts around reparation and transformation. Using reclaimed, found objects, including discarded synthetic materials, I create soft sculptures that foreground a collective emotional and psychological realm. Through the soft sculpture 'Stardropper', I reference Heysen’s deep insight and understanding of the natural world, (our natural brain), as shown in his Flinders Ranges series of paintings, where reparation underpins his great psychological narrative.
Materials: Pacific maple, found branch, cashmere, mixed beads, new and recycled materials
