The Ant Eater Makes a Topiary by SA artist Gavn Card - Finalist in the 2024 Heysen Prize for Landscape.

I'm a trained horticulturist who has worked in many curated gardens, leading me to explore the vintage and playful art of topiary using paint. My studio is circled by a wonderful established garden which is wilder than most urban gardens in general. The world is an increasingly vulnerable place to exist in which adds to my desire to create moments of whimsical pause. There is enough serious business in the world without me adding to it.
