Water Divide - Bridget Hillebrand
Water Divide by VIC artist Bridget Hillebrand - Finalist in the 2024 Heysen Prize for Landscape.
‘Water Divide’ is part of an ongoing series of work that investigates the materiality of printed and constructed washi paper to reflect on the vulnerability and shifting ecology of ocean and river systems. Humans have transformed the earth, diverting rivers and draining wetlands and water tables. As water temperatures rise, our unique marine habitats are increasingly at risk of loss and degradation. My work is informed by the complexity and the interconnectedness of the climate crisis. ‘Water Divide’ hangs freely from the wall so that it can be affected by the currents of air that pass over it and suggests a passage of water protected in the gentle folds of floating paper, cradled and held.
