SA Icons Tote Bag (Julia Gillard) - Sally Heinrich
Julia Gillard’s magnificent misogyny speech has become legendary. I made a lino print featuring part of it as part of my ‘Local Icons’ series of lino prints. (Yes, I know she was born in Wales, but we’ve claimed her for South Australia.) Now here it is as a tote bag!
Digitally printed on certified organic, climate friendly cotton. Roomy and strong, appropriately 42 x 44cm (74 including shoulder strap.)
Julia was our first female Prime Minister and our first red-haired PM. I think it’s ok to say that, because she allegedly called herself ‘ranga-in-chief’ (Is this true? I tried to check but could find nothing to disprove it.) I relate. I might not be a natural redhead but I’ve been one for so long I can’t actually remember what colour my hair really is.
For those who don’t know about lino printing, all of the text had to be carved in mirror image so it would print the right way round.
A perfect gift for any strong woman, or for a man who might need to be sent a not-so-subtle message. Or for yourself. Great for making a statement while you shop. Or as a library bag, or going to the beach. Or anywhere really.
